How do you play
Two Minute Drill Game?
The two minute drill game puts the final stretch of a football game in your hands. You don’t need a controller. Just a little nerve and a good next call.
Read the full playbook ↗- 01
Read the situation.
Check the score, clock, down and field position. A first down is useful. A smart first down is better.
- 02
Call your shot.
Pick a run, pass, option or trick play. Balance risk, yardage and how much clock you can afford to spend.
- 03
Finish the job.
Score before time runs out, then call the defense if your opponent gets the ball back. Review your drive and share your result.
Which game mode should you play?
Start with Daily for a shared challenge, Practice for unlimited attempts, Survivor for consecutive wins, or Classics for a historical starting situation. Every mode is free.
| Mode | Starting situation | Goal & progress |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | New fictional scenario at midnight UTC | Win before time expires; your attempt resumes on this device. |
| Survivor | Consecutive fictional challenges | Build a streak; a loss or draw ends the run. |
| Classics | Three sourced historical situations | Reach the scenario objective, then compare with the real ending. |
| Practice | Repeatable two-minute setup | Experiment with calls and start a fresh drive whenever you want. |
Which parts are real football?
The game uses four downs to gain ten yards, but each snap is an independent simulation. Daily teams are fictional. Classics reproduce a historical starting situation, not the actual sequence of NFL plays.
The NFL Football Operations glossary explains downs and scoring. Our simulation simplifies touchdowns to seven points with an automatic extra point; it does not model penalties, kickoff returns or overtime.
Primary historical sources

- Kansas City Chiefs: 2022 divisional-round recap — the 13-second drive that forced overtime.
- New England Patriots: Tom Brady career record — the final drive and winning kick in Super Bowl XXXVI.

What should you
know before playing?
What is a two minute drill game?
+
It is a football strategy game about late-game decisions. In this browser game, you manage downs, distance, timeouts and play selection to turn a tight finish into a win.
Is Two Minute Drill free to play?
+
Yes. Daily challenges, Survivor, practice and all three classic scenarios are free. No account, download or subscription is required.
How does the daily challenge work?
+
A new simulated scenario and shared random seed arrive at midnight UTC. Your first attempt is saved in this browser. You can resume a drive, and after finishing you can practice freely. Changing your decisions changes your path through the game.
Are these real NFL plays?
+
Classic scenarios use sourced historical starting situations and compare your ending with the real game's result. Each new snap uses an independent probability-based simulation. Daily and Survivor teams and scenarios are fictional. This is an independent game, not affiliated with the NFL or nfl2mindrill.com.
How is my coaching grade calculated?
+
Your grade is a transparent playbook heuristic based on time, distance, score, coverage and risk. It grades your decisions separately from random play outcomes. It is not an NFL ranking or a calibrated win probability. Stats are personal and stored on this device.
Can I play on my phone?
+
Yes. Tap a play, choose your tempo and press Call play. The field and controls adapt to small screens. You can take as long as you need to decide; the clock only advances when you act.
